Silk Vs real flowers for a wedding?

So i was thinking about making my own bouquets. Although i dont know if i want to make them with silk flowers or if i want to use real flowers. Which do you think looks better. Personally i think real flowers would look nicer only because the fake flowers i have ran into ultimately look way too cheesy and you can tell their fake!

Just want some opinions.

im thinking of using white and red roses andn carnations. with some ivy

Silk Vs real flowers for a wedding?
definitely real, and besides, what are you gonna do with all those fake flowers oncew the day is done... spose you could give them to guests, but still. I think your idea with roses, carnations and ivy is absoloutely lovely. Have an awesome wedding!
Reply:Real. I personally take real flowers over silk any day.
Reply:Real vs. Fake... I would have to go with real if you're concerned with the aesthetic but if price is a major concern you might want to go with silk flowers. However there is a website you might want to check out that has reasonably priced real flowers, www.freshroses.com. I have also heard that silicone flowers appear to be very realistic.
Reply:i think i would use high quality silks. stay away from michaels. quality silks look like the real thing and last forever. it is very pretty to put a silk bouquet under a glass dome for a table decoration after the wedding.
Reply:I am using silk flowers in my wedding because I want to be able to keep my bouquet forever. The only problem with silk is that it is kind of hard to find really good silk flowers. It took me a long time to find calla lilies that didn't look fake. So, if you are thinking what is easiest...go with real...but if you are thinking what would be cheaper and last longer...go with silk.
Reply:There is really nothing wrong with silk flowers. However, it is one special day, and it really is nice for everyone to have real flowers - makes everyone seem that little bit more cared for.
Reply:Do you realize how much you will be doing the day before your wedding. You'll never be able to make your own bouquets. Do you have any experience or the supplies needed? Do you have enough refrigeration to keep the flowers fresh? If you still plan on making your flowers, after I've pointed out just some of the problems, you should definitely go with silks. There are plenty of quality flowers available. In truth, the silks will probably end up costing you more ( for really good ones) Do you want to do this to save money? My I suggest that you get your bouquet made by a florist. For your attendants, pick out one beautiful "statement flower" such as a Calla Lily. The florist can wrap the stem with beautiful ribbons (to complement the colors of their dresses). They would carry cradled in the crook of their arm. Rather inexpensive, and quite lovely. Spend the money on YOUR bouquet. It will appear in many of your pictures. Please consider my advice and avoid any extra stress on your special day. Sorry, I did go on, didn't I?
Reply:I would go with the real ones...they'll smell and look beautiful.

You could also make some book marks with them...as a memory or keep sake.
Reply:I think real flowers.. I don;t think fake flower s look bad but its a special day and I think you want everything to look perfect go all out
Reply:I still have my bouquet and my bridesmaids do too. We had really nice ones made with really good silks. Not too expensive either - $100 for everything. Mine is now displayed in a shadow box with my husband's boutineer. It looks as nice as the day we were married.

We were married in June (small wedding in NY)and then had a big reception in Philly for friends and family. So we needed to have silks so we wouldn't have to buy two sets of flowers.

Don't go to AC moores or Michaels. They are the cheesy ones.

Try places like this:

You can google silk flowers to get tons of places that carry nicer looking silks. Good Luck!
Reply:I would encourage real flowers because they're just classier. Sadly, they're also much more expensive. If on a budget, I would choose to have small bouquets of real flowers over larger ones of fakes.
Reply:No doubt real, if you are not alergic. Besides of being much more classic and express good tatse, real flowers are real and everything real is better than those fakes that try to be like real....why to get something fake, if you can get the real one? Plus, you already answered your own question....silk or fake flowers are expression of cheesy. The most elegant hotels and places in the world, use real flowers on their decorations.
Reply:My fiance bought silk flowers for our wedding on ebay and they look amazing. It included her bouquet, bridesmaid bouquet and two button holes for about $45.
Reply:Honey, I hope you know what your in for. Bouquets are A LOT of work. Fresh flowers have to be done like the day before the wedding and they have to be kept refrigerated so they won't wilt. If you go with fresh flowers, I would suggest hiring a florist. On the other hand, I have made several bouquets out of silks. They are absolutely gorgeous. You just have to buy the high quality silks. It also helps to know what flowers and positions to put them in the bouquet. I wish you all the luck on your wedding day and I would still suggest you get alot of help or hire someone, or you are going to be all stressed out on your wedding day and no one wants that. Hey check out this website for great looking silk flowers, they will even give you advise. I order flowers from them all the time and they really look real. www.afloral.com
Reply:hi i had the same dilemma, the trouble with roses is that if they are out of water too long then will wilt. i am having silk flowers for my wedding, the roses i am using are velvety and the look really real. i would keep looking,i found mine on eBay of all places, i bought enough burgundy roses for mine, the maid of honor and my 2 flower girls and the button holes for about £42, and they look great. and just to add to the 'effect' i am using essential oils to make them smell like roses. the added benefit with silk flowers is that you get to keep them forever, good luck and i hope you find the perfect flowers.
Reply:sounds romantic real flowers always more romantic
Reply:First you have to think of cost. If you're ballin on a budget (as I like to say) then I would suggest silk flowers. I know the Michael's in my area has them in all white for pretty cheap (like 59 cents/flower)or you can google some sites for silk flowers if there isn't one in your area. However, if you have the money to splurge...then go for real. Personally I would go for fake only because you don't want your flowers wilting or falling apart in the middle of your special day. Plus you can jazz up silk flowers to give them real appeal. For example, say you want you carnations to be red at the tips of the petals. You could use a fabric spray and only coat the tips. You could also spray the silk flowers with a light floral perfume to give them a pleasant fragrance. The choice is yours, but I would look at the budget first. Good Luck!
