Seasonal flowers in October for Wedding Bouquets and illustrations for invitation?
Try this link - it should help. It will tell you the names of the seasonal flowers and then you can just look up some images of them.

The wedding websites also have good sections on flowers too.

Ordering flowers/plants online...?

Has anyone ever ordered flowers online?

I want to send a plant (not fresh cut flowers) as a gift and want to order it online. (i.e. 1-800-flowers, proflowers, virtual florist, etc.)

Have you ordered online? From where? What was the quality? Do you recommend that site?

Ordering flowers/plants online...?
We've used 1-800-flowers.com. I think that it's good: reasonable cost and deliveries have always worked out. You could also contact a florist in the area that you want to have the plant delivered and order "locally" online. We have also done this and it worked out fine as well.
Reply:GO TO http://www.cajuncountrycandies... Report It

Reply:as a florist, I am telling you the truth here.

Your best bet is to call your local florist, or if you live out of town and need to "wire" flowers to someone, get on the internet and locate a flower shop in that area.

Most if not all flower shops will take an order using your credit card.

Do not make the mistake of putting a middle man (like 1-800) into your final sale, it will only make the costs go up.
Reply:Go to your local florist shop. They can arrange to have a live plant arrangement delivered just the same as they can arrange to have cut flowers delivered.

Good luck with your shopping.
Reply:I have found the best way to order plants/flowers is to call a local florist directly, in the town in which the recipent lives. The online ordering places seem to have lots of charges added on to the actually price of the plant and you never know what you'll get. However, if you call a local place you will just get a delivery charge. And they are much more likely to make you what you want, not just what is seen online. And local businesses are usually much more pleasant to work with than online order companies. Just go to a place like dexonline.com, type in floral and the city and you should get a list of local shops. Good Luck!

Does anyone make beaded flowers--I need a flower maker!?

HI there!

I have an upcoming wedding in September and have decided on beaded flowers in place of the traditional fresh flowers. I know I definetly want orange lillies, and possibly roses. I'm trying to get quotes from different flower makers for a total of 4 bouquets. Are you a beaded flower maker? Or do you know someone that makes them? If so, shoot me an email (with pics of your work if possible) and maybe we can talk some buisness! thanks!

I need help with flowers for my wedding! HELP!?

I will be getting married in a little over a year. Our colors will be green and black. My Fiance is in the Army, and he will be wearing his Class A's, which are dark green. My dress is white with ivory pearls and embroidery. The groomsmen will be wearing black tuxes. I want to use silk flowers, because I would like black flowers. I was thinking of some sort of black flower, gardenias, and green hydrangeas. Could you tell me what you think about maybe using other kinds of flowers, tell me what types to use, and what color you think the bridesmaid dresses should be, along with an accent color for the dresses? I really like green, white, and black together so I'm sticking with these colors. Also, it will be a summer wedding, so In-Season flowers are preferrable. Thank you very much! Any comments are greatly appreciated!

I need help with flowers for my wedding! HELP!?
I think the bridesmaids would look great in either black or green (or even black with a green sash or green with a black sash). You could just get them all to buy a black dress that way they get to choose a style that will suit them and they can wear again.

As for flowers:

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a266/a...

I love this bouquet with black leaves rather than black flowers- you could tie it with a green ribbon: http://budgetdreamweddings.com/weddingpl...

Black calla lillies: http://66.34.224.169/uploads/images/cont...

Black irises: http://www.directgardening.com/large/421...

You could go for real: black leaves or black flowers such as black calla lillies or black irises. Some florists will also dye certain (real) flowers black for you (e.g. Orchids stems can be put into black colouring, which will make the flowers turn black- the same as they do to get blue orchids).

Sometimes silk black flowers can look really fake as they're kind of shiny due to the dark colouring - so look for good quality if you really must go with fake.

I'd also suggest mixing up the black with green or white (or both) just so the bouquets aren't too dark, as they won't photograph as well if you have a whole lot of all black flowers clumped together.

If you were to go for black bridesmaid dresses, I think green and white flowers would look really nice (e.g. the first link above). A green or white flower to go with the black tuxes would also look good, rather than having black on black.
Reply:Have you thought of using feathers in your bouquets? My sister got married in October, and her colors were red, gold, and black. We used fluffy black feathers like these ostrich feathers: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h... and red silk roses. You could use a pale green for the flowers, like these: http://www.onesourceweddings.net/bouquet... which looks AWESOME with a darker green, like your fiance's uniform. In fact, shades of green are pretty easy to mix. Green is a great neutral in florals (have you ever heard anyone say "Those green leaves don't match that flower!"? Of course not.), so you can pretty much go with whatever green catches your eye. Same with the bridesmaids dresses, though a pale granny-smith-apple green would be really pretty. I'd avoid the muddy sage color that was so popular a few years ago. It's just kind of bland. You could also go with knee length black dresses for the bridesmaids- much easier for them to wear again.
Reply:If you are wearing ivory I would use cream, green and black together as your colors as white would be stark against the other colors. With that in mind, you could spray carnations (mini or medium) black or even roses that are cream with black tips. Also spray baby's breath a cream color. The bridesmaid dresses could be either green with cream sashes or cream with green sashes.
Reply:I would put the bridesmaids in a lighter version of the greens in your fiances Class A's with the black flowers. OR.. black and white dresses with a green sash. Solid black dresses, and you won't see the black flowers.
Reply:pink accents might look nice...a soft pink or a bright pink might be the "lift" that it needs.

Reply:I am looking in to silks and this is the site I found what I needed. They have a color spray you can buy and you can use it on real or fake flowers I suggest looking under floral supply when you google. Here is the site I am getting my stuff from. Good luck your bestfriend will be Researching for this stuff now you are on the right track! Best wishes!
Reply:If you're using silk flowers, why do you care whether or not they're in season? I don't mean to sound cheeky, but that's part of the benefit of using fake vs. real flowers, right? You get more freedom in what you choose to use!

Try looking for a lot of white blooms to throw in there to avoid making the decor look too gloomy. There are plenty of different types of greenery to choose from, so it should tie in COMPLETELY with your color scheme! White Dendrobium Orchids are BEAUTIFUL and in season between April and August. Chrysanthemum and Dahlias are also beautiful, white, summer flowers.

As far as black flowers go, I just found out about the black viola - they're BEAUTIFUL! ( https://www.anniesannuals.com/signs/v%20... )

Another really pretty (black and white) flower is the Penny Black Nemophila. ( http://www.nickys-nursery.co.uk/seeds/ne... )

I see no reason that your bridesmaids couldn't wear green or black. Black is a very elegant colour, and green can be very cheery, although if you're worried about clashing with the colour green the groom will be wearing, maybe it'd be better to stick with the black. (I'm guessing you don't want to share the white..!)
Reply:BLACK CALLA LILLIES , BLACK VELVET ROSES
Reply:Calla Lily would be great for your wedding, it has a long green stalk with a white petal. The meaning of the flower is beauty.
Reply:green tea roses can look gorgeous!

http://www.ftd.com/vera-wang-ppr/vera-wa...

you could always tie the stems in black ribbon
Reply:First, there are real black flowers, so think about that. Black Magic Roses are near black and there are dark purple calla's that also look black. If you want to do something a little more affordable ask a florists for alternative suggestions. Even if you don't have a florist make the arrangements, they can help you find flowers that work with your color scheme. There are so many options out there, you need an expert to help you narrow it down.

In regards to the girls dresses, black might be a little severe for summer, but if you do a cute short dress, or a black and white floral print, it could be very cute!
Reply:Well, first, let me try to talk you out of the black flowers; if you use silk flowers, it would really look better to use ones as close looking to fresh as possible. Since black flowers don't exist in nature, I would stick with the green and ivory for the flowers themselves. Maybe white roses and green hydrangeas with black ribbon and maybe a hint of black feathers! That would be fabulous!

If you wanted to add another color to this, I would suggest a pink; pink %26amp; green, pink %26amp; black are very nice together!

Guys and flowers...?

my coworker's anniversary is tomorrow. every year she wishes her husband would send her flowers at work. last year he did, but it was their 10th anniversary. he knows she likes flowers but never gets any.

what is with guys and flowers? don't they know that most women love to get flowers for almost any reason?

Guys and flowers...?
My husband doesn't like to spend the money, so he compromised with me. I get to pick out the flowers that he puts in the garden so that when we do have a fight he can go out and pick me some.
Reply:my bf of almost 5 years gives me roses ONLY on valentine's day! i wish he could send me flowers at work since all the girls that work at my office get flowers every now and then and I'm the only one who gets nothing BUT in the other hand my bf takes me shopping and takes me to fancy places and the girls at work CANNOT SAY THE SAME. they always go to crappy places and should get a fashion ticket almost everyday so....... i guess I'm lucky :)
Reply:Flowers are the sex organs of the plant. Something about cutting them off and sending them to somebody to signify romance seems a bit twisted. They are a waste of money and symbolize castration. Men are too smart for this.

Girls, when you receive flowers...?

Girls, when you receive flowers, especially if it's totally unexpected, what comes through your mind?

I know it depends on the occasion...

So I'm not talking about when a guy screws up, and send you flowers to apologize...

I'm talking about when you receive flowers from a guy who you don't expect flowers from (a friend etc)

Do you think that the guy who sent you the flowers has an interest in you???

Girls, when you receive flowers...?
Yea, I definitely think they're interested if they send me flowers. (I've never seen a random guy give a girl flowers if he's absolutely not interested at all.)

But if the boy who gives it to me is someone I'm not attracted to (or could never be attracted to with time) then it freaks me out and I feel really embarrassed. (especially if the flowers were delivered in public). You should probably talk to her before you send the flowers so you can see if she's also attracted to you. If she is, then sending flowers is a cute/romantic way to tell her you're interested :)
Reply:i know that when i get flowers for no apparent reason, i feel so special.

once a good friend of mine was having some money troubles so i helped him out just because i wanted to. he keep insisting on repaying me but i never accepted money from him. at some point in one of many conversations i mentioned my favorite flower and told him that i have never recieved flowers from anyone before.

one day out of no where, i found a vase full of my favorite flowers left on my nightstand with a note that said, i told you i'd repay you.

it made me feel so great inside. words couldn't describe the way i actually felt.

and yes i think he had an interest in me because he actually remembered such a small interest of mine and used it to bring me joy.
Reply:Yes. And depending on the guy, I will be either terrified or flattered.
Reply:i think it just depends. if ur really good friends then shell probably think ur just being nice. or she might think u have an interset in her. it really all depends.
Reply:Yup.

And not a "You're so hot, I wanna **** you" kind of interest.

But a genuine interest.

Can't go wrong with flowers.
Reply:Maybe this friend knew you were having a ruff week or something and was just trying to brighten up your day. Or maybe they are interrested you'd have to ask them. Are you interrested in this person is the better question?
Reply:If it is completely out of the blue, then yes I might think he likes me. But it also has a lot to do with what the card says, and what type of flowers they are. Red roses are not usually sent to friends.
Reply:I would think so.
Reply:Yes. We know the guy is interested, unless like you said its a special occasion, like a birthday graduation etc.
Reply:Yeah, I think I would be suspicious that there's more to the 'friendship' than I knew. Flowers should be sent by love interests only, unless you're in the hospital or dead.
Reply:Yes, i would deinitely think he is interested. I would hope for a guy who would send flowers that I like personally. I absolutely hate red roses. They are over done and kind of depressing. Something like daisies or roses of a different color are good. Try to find out what kind she likes.
Reply:I was totally surprised when I received flowers at my job a few months back. They came from a friend that I knew in a casual way and we spoke rarely (maybe once every month) well i called him to thank him for the flowers and he said he was just thinking about me and decided to send flowers. He never mentioned getting together or seeing me, it was just a nice thought and nothing more. So my answer to you is, "NO" flowers are not necessarily an intent to anything. Maybe if the card said something like "love, miss you, lets get together etc." you could draw more meaning.
Reply:Unexpected flowers from a male friend... well if she ever questioned your interest, she no longer will! :-) That's very romantic and sure to win you points...

but does she like you? I ask this because if she doesn't then sending her flowers will weird out the friendship... if she likes you then it should close the deal...

Good luck...
Reply:Nooooo i dont think that if guy doesn't give any more hints, tell u want i know why u r asking this q,man go %26amp; talk to the girl %26amp; tell her what is in ur heart.

Best of luck

I already have a flower bed in my yard and want to plant flowers. What do I do?

The flower bed is just filled up with dirt, weeds, and pebbles. First I need to clean it out I guess but do I use the dirt that's already in there or do put soil down? If you want to know, I live in Southern Arizona where it's always dry and hot and I want to plant perennial flowers. I'm new to gardening and want to know how prepare the flower bed, what type of soil I need (if necessary) and any tips on types of flowers to plant. Thanks alot!

I already have a flower bed in my yard and want to plant flowers. What do I do?
Yes clean the bed and decide on the look you are going for. You can actually get quite a lush look from native plants in your area. You are also Lucky enough to live where you can have great plants such as phormium and succulents galore.

Secondly if you want to use some things that would require more water, add an irrigation system and, a good soil mix (soil, compost, and organics). You can also just add this is pockets as well. Add textures with ornaments as well as different types of stone.

Grasses can provide movement and softness.

Evergreen can provide statue like presence as well as privacy, and formality.

Succulents can provide architectural elements.

xeric perennials can add color for years to come.

annual materials can add splashes of color that that transform the mood of the garden with each season.

Herbs, most require less water and fertilization, they also add refreshing scents and flavors to your space and cooking.

This site has a great plant list

hope this helps
Reply:Being a beginner in anything starts with learning .......below are some links to help guide you........the other way to find information in your area is check the gardens in your neighborhood and go to your local nursery or garden center....they will keep the types of flowers best suited for your area . Don't be afraid to ask questions.......people just love when they have the answer.

Good Luck !

You may be hesitant to replace summer bloomers such as periwinkle, zinnia, verbena and portulaca that are still flowering. But if you wait too late into October to replace them, there won't be enough time to get cool-season flowers up and growing vigorously before cold weather arrives in December.

I want to throw down flower seeds so that my entire lawn will be completely blanketed in flowers. Suggestions?

The problem is, it seems like most flower seeds have to be planted at least 1/2 an inch or more in the soil. Forget that! I just want to have buckets full of seeds that I can just THROW all over my yard, so that soon after, my neighbors will see my yard vomiting a tremendous carpet of flowers. I mean I want every bald inch of my front yard covered in flowers (mixed or not, whatever).

So, would I do this in early spring, or would I do it in the fall, and --%26gt; what flower seeds could I use? I'll use bags and bags of flower seeds on my yard, as long as I can just throw them down (no digging, tilling, planting, etc). Just tell me what and when. I wish I could do it now (it's almost autumn as of 'now'), that would be great. If I can, let me know.

ZONE 6.

I want to throw down flower seeds so that my entire lawn will be completely blanketed in flowers. Suggestions?
You're not gonna like this, but it's true. You have to kill the grass first. Honest. BUT. on the plus side, this is a good time to do it. Perfect really. Buy concentrated Round Up and mix as directed. Follow the instructions. Buy a sprayer if you have a good size lawn.

Next, just throw pounds of seeds on your ex-lawn. Do it in Winter. Rake them down in a bit if you can, just to keep the birds from eating it.

That's it.
Reply:Get two mixes, one featuring a lot of members of the sunflower family (Asteraceae) to broadcast in the sunny parts of your lawn and another one with a lot of members of the rose family (Rosaceae) to broadcast in the shady parts. I'd broadcast the mixes in the late fall and expect to see some plants coming up the following spring, especially the roseaceae ones, with the asteraceae flowers following in late spring and through the summer. The trick to getting a "carpet of flowers" from broadcasting is to put out a lot of seed. Only a fraction of the seed will wind up planted in the right condititions to germinate each year. If you get native plants, especially perennials, though you can expect some of the seeds that don't come up next year to come up in subsequent years since native plants have a percentage of their seeds that can stay dormant for several years and still be viable. One thing you can do to increase the chance of flower seed coming up after you broadcast it, is to walk all over the lawn after you've sewn the seed, especially if you get (or make) some aerating soles for your shoes. The foot traffic will make some of the seed come in contact with the soil deep enough to germinate. Another thing you can do after broadcasting is to power rake the yard at a very shallow depth which will also plant some of the seed at the right depth. Disturbing the lawn each fall with power raking or even just regular raking with a stiff tined rake will disturb the soil and plant new groups of seed at the right depth. If you doubt this, just go out in "the wild" and look for places where there are a lot of flowers. Chances are, that area recieved some type of disturbance prior to the seeds' germinating. Some typical disturbances are fire, grazing (accompanied by all the hoof traffic) by wild and/or domestic animals, digging from burrowing animals, etc. I would recommend getting wildflower seed mixes from a source (where the seed's host plants were grown) located as close to your home as possible so that the plants will be adapted to your local climate.
Reply:Clarkia, yarrow, tidytips, batchelor buttons, are one off the top of my head would work in z 6.

Many of the plants who like their seeds trown around are annuals, so you need to consider what the rest of the year will be like.

Is the grass still growing? What kind of grass is it. Some grasses will do well with wildflowers and not smother them out or out compete them. I like sheep fescue and red fescue. Both stay about 6" tall and need little care.

Since you'r ein z6 you probably have a "Wild Ones" chapter somewhere. They are focused on using native plants for landscaping.

After scattering the seed it would be helpful to spread a thin layer of mulch or compost. Like 1/8".

Startig in fall is usually best.

Beware of "weeds" in the socalled wildflower mixes. Some will take over and cause you no wnd of pesty maintainace.

Gallardia. Allysum (a weed often), Echinacea, evening primrose, ...
Reply:sounds good but what about all those weeds that will be mixed in?
Reply:and what will your neighbors have to say when your yard looks like a wild meadow?... they'll say it's inhabited by rats and snakes, that's what.... and they'll complain to the city and they'll make you mow it..... actually, it's a nice idea, but realistically, it's not gonna happen..............sorry..... for a couple of years, the area will look like a weed patch and not your desired carpet of flowers.....
Reply:About the only flower seeds you can throw out are wildflowers. Check out this company and read there tutorial:

Question about caring for iris flowers?

Neighbor dug up a bunch of his in-full-bloom purple standard iris flowers for me and told me to plant them. They are beautiful. I planted them a week ago, and so far, so good (they seem to have "took"). The existing purple flowers are gorgeous, but I don't see any new buds. Are these a type that just bloom once a year and that's it? Once the flowers are gone, do I just leave the leaves as they are in the soil or do I dig them up?

Question about caring for iris flowers?
Yes, the iris just bloom once a year. You can leave them right in the ground, and once the blooms are over trim the leaves down to about 6 inches high, in a fan shape. This helps reduce moisture loss and encourages new growth. Just make sure that the tops of the rhizome are out of the soil, this is the fleshy part under the leaves and over the roots.

I love iris, you're lucky they are still blooming well for you.
Reply:Once a year bloom; but is a perennial.

They will return year after year if planted deep enough. Reproductions are created from new bulbs off existing roots. Next year may be same number of Iris you planted; years later, you should be seeing additional stalks.

I don't trim mine until either fall or next spring; this is an individual's taste.

Ordering wholesale flowers online?!?

I am getting married and am trying to look at ways of saving money. I am thinking about ordering the wedding flowers wholesale online! Has anyone done this? Did you have a good experience? What about DIY wedding in a box flowers from major flower wholesalers?

I am not worried about having to create my bouquets or center pieces, I am MORE worried about the quality of the flowers and things like that!

Ordering wholesale flowers online?!?
I'm buying bulk flowers from Sam's Club... After Valentine's Day is over the prices will drop back down to 125 white roses for $87... I've ordered flowers from there before and they were beautiful. There's many other sites out there but I haven't tried them sorry.
Reply:Hi. I used the following (www.rosesource.com) and have recommended it to others on here. They sell ALL varieties of flowers, but, of course, roses are their specialty. The minimum on roses, though is 75 (roses...not dollars!) I can vouch for the quality and the on-time shipment from this company. You can view my testimonial under "Gail B." One thing, though....it's a lot of work!....But, I saved almost $1,000 so it was worth it and I would do it again.

http://www.rosesource.com/

Also, if you live by a Walmart, I know you can special order roses from them. They are only $10-$12 for a dozen. I buy roses from Walmart all the time (for my home.) I think you can do the same at a Costco.

Good luck! Yes, it is definitely a savings.
Reply:I did it. I ordered my flowers from samsclub.com and I had a great experience. The only thing that didn't work out like I planned were the lillies. When I received them they hadn't opened yet. We had to go ahead and make the bouquets and arrangements with the buds only. It still turned our beautifully and it actually gave them a unique twist. I was very happy with the results and I would do it again.
Reply:get them at costco!!! that's what i did. you can preorder them and they come in FRESH then and they let you take them home in buckets of water...

let me know if you want to see picutres of the boquets.. you can't email me though..

My friend told me that you can call them and actually customize your order also...so, you aren't just limited to the one's listed on the site. Hope this helps!

I have seen some of the DIY kits but for the same price I found that I would have more variety and get more flowers for the same price by ordering a mixture. esp from flower exchnage. I plan to use a popping colors but if you wanted to keep it more simple then the kits would be a great way to go! Hope I helped : )

Should my strawberry plants have had flowers last year?

I purchased a couple strawberry plants last year and got them in the ground. The directions that came with them indicated that I should pinch the flowers off that first year to allow the plant to get strong but flowers never came. The 2 plants gave me 13 daughters and now the original 2 have flowers and the daughter plants are not flowering at all (similar to what I saw last year with the original two). Is it really 2 years not 1 that you go without fruit, pinching flowers off during the second year or are the flowering plants strong enough to bear fruit this year after one year of no fruit or flowers? Should my strawberry plants have had flowers last year?
Berry plants need all of their energy to grow initially, It's kind of like a teenager having a baby - both do better if they wait until the mom's ready.

Thanks in advance!

Mmmm?? Church Flowers??

I am on a budget with flowers. I have organised my bouquets and reception flowers but was thinking about the church. Do we really need flowers in the church? If so, where are the main place(s) to put them considering I don't want to spend much. i.e its about £70 ($140) per pedestal !!!!!!

Ive already thought about saving money in the church by putting silk bows around the ends of the pews to brighten up things, and my flowers girl is giving out springs of lavender and white heather tied with ribbon to guests as she walks down the aisle.

Please help with suuggestions XX

Mmmm?? Church Flowers??
are there any other weddings in the church on the same day? we split the cost with the other two weddings that day. we had neutral colours and it worked really well. much cheaper!

my friend just had flowers in the doorway, on the altar and on the front pews and then ribbons on every other pew.

another idea is to use the flowers from the church to decorate the reception not the tables but around the room. my brother did this. some friends took them to the reception whilst they had their photos taken. hope this helps x
Reply:My mom did this for my wedding...

She bought large baskets and did some arrangements with silk plants instead of flowers. They looked classy and didn't cost a fortune. She still has them in her home 15 years later!
Reply:Check with the church to see if they have any flowers they might have up at that time anyway, I am getting married a week before easter so they will already have easter lillies up I only have to buy a couple of potted mums (my fiance wants them).
Reply:have you considered using standing candelabras instead and placing bows and maybe just fern or greenery on them and then white candles this will look elegant and still be cheap the church may even have some all ready and then place at either side of the alter .
Reply:Stick to your bows on the pews, your guests are looking at you and the rest of your bridal party, not how well you've decorated the church.

Best wishes for your future.
Reply:You do NOT need church flowers. AT ALL.

Really, people do not notice them. You'll spend money and effort decorating the church, and no one will pay any attention to it. No pedestals, don't waste your money.
Reply:put them on the begining of the stuff when u walk in %26amp; when the priest sits
Reply:I was in your same position - we rented standing candelabras and chose to put a vase of flowers by the guest book and a larger vase on the piano (my sister was the soloist so I wanted to place a bit of focal impact there). Put tulle bows on the candelabras and that was it. We did bows on the first 6 pews (reserved for family) and placed tapers in the windows to honor loved ones in our family who had passed away prior to our marriage - only one window did not have a candle).

The candles were much more elegant and people still comment on the simplistic beauty of our ceremony 3 years later.

Congrats %26amp; good luck! Put your money will it make the most impact.
Reply:Doorway where people walk in, one set on the alter and one set shoulder hight (of people sitting down) on both ends of first row of seats in the middle.

Good luck and congrats
Reply:many houses of worship have "flower funds" where parishioners can make contributions so that there are always flower arrangements on the altar. check with your church to see if this is the case (or go there a couple of times prior to your wedding for services %26amp; see for yourself). Silk bows are nice, but you might even be able to get away with just doing the first two rows of pews at the front by the altar, as this will signify that they are for "family" members of the bride %26amp; groom. no real need to do each pew, unless you have it in your budget. your boquet and the flowers to be carried by your ladies and the boutoniers for the gents will be plenty of flowers, and will make the whole effect simple and elegant. remember, less is more. particularly when you have a flower girl giving away heather at the door. another suggestion for your flower girl, add a sprig of rosemary for remembrance. the older guests in particular will like the guesture, it won't cost much more than the heather, and it smells nice. every time they smell rosemary from then on, your guests will think of your wedding.
Reply:Churches r-e-a-l-l-y don't need flowers, but they are a nice addition....IF you can afford them. They are not a necessity %26amp; you can be just as married without them.

Now what you could do is use silk flowers to make some altar floral arrangements yourself, but I don't really see the need for that, either.

Pew bows are always pretty. They can be all white or with color or flowers added. They can be ribbon, tulle or the two combined. Take a look at some of these examples.

Tying a pew bow is not difficult, only awkward. There's also a bow maker on the market for about $10. If you can't hold several yards of ribbon at once, it's indespensible.

Reply:I'm not really a "flowers" person. So for me I just got one really beautiful bouquet to put on the alter. I had some candles and things and made that the focal point. Churches are usually beautiful places anyway, I don't think that flowers in the church add that much...except to the budget! I say less is more!
Reply:It sounds like you already have some really great ideas. My friend who wanted a bit of decor but had a small budget used mostly greenery in the church - it's much cheaper.

However, if you want to flowers, I say do some at the entry to the church and use your material inside.
Reply:I like the silk bow ideas....you dont wanna take away from ur bouquet, or the other flowers the girls will have. The bows will be a nice addition of class and color - go for the bows!!
Reply:i didn't use any flowers in my church for my wedding. i got married at Christmas and it had a HUGE Christmas tree and poisnetta's thru out the church which made it beautiful. But as far as the pews, I just used oil candles and it made my evening wedding just glowing ( no pun intended). It made pretty pics too. But good luck and congrats!!
Reply:Quite a lot of flower shops have pedestals for hire, big ones round about £25. A lot depends on view of the minister/vicar/priest. I have heard most are okay about this but some think flowers placed on the altar of God should be left there.
Reply:hi, i am getting married in august and i bought those silk bows for the pews but did not want to spend out on flowers for the church the vicar said there would be flowers there ready anyway as they have Sunday service. It may not go with my colour scheme but they have not cost me nothing and as long as your reception is looking bright and stunning who cares about flowers in the church you will only be in there for about a hour so don't worry about it. pew bows are fine on their own. spend your money on something more worthwhile on the day. good luck and enjoy your day.
Reply:yes it is nice to see flowers in a church when somone is getting married, but i would jusy buy a selection from your local supermarket, the church should have stands with vases on them as long as you have some at each side of the altar, that should be enough, if you know any friends that will have flowers in their garden ask nicely if you can pick some for the church, you can pick up greenery anywhere, from hedges etc.
Reply:just keep it simple and just give the importamt people flowers, there is no point going over the top if you don't need to.

since you have the bows on the end of the pews.
Reply:If your Church is elegant and regal itself, then you can save on floral purchases. If you absolutely want a few arrangements, consider moderate arrangements for the alter and go with the pew bows. I believe that will still be very nice and inexpensive.
Reply:Great ways to save money on church flowers are to;

- ask if there will be flowers at the church already, certain times of the year the church will be decorated.

- ask if there is another wedding at the church that day and then see if they would like to share in the cost of the flowers - you would need to liase about the type and colours of the flowers.

You could include both your colours or have a neutral display.

- If neither of the options are good think about moving the display from the church to the wedding reception so that you get the most out of them for your money!

If you are looking for other ways to save money on your wedding day have a look at

Good luck with your planning
Reply:I think your ideas are great if you are on a budget. The flowers will not make your marriage any happier then it will be that day....congratulations
Reply:I am in exactly the same position. We are having organza bows on the end of every other pew, then the pedestal arrangements which like you said, are £70-90 each, we are moving to the reception to have either side of the top table. The arrangement on the signing of the register table in the church we are having as a centre piece on the top table at the reception. We have found that we have seaved enormously by having someone move the flowers from the church to the reception for us.

GOOD LUCK AND ALL THE BEST FOR YOUR WEDDING XXX
Reply:You know, we use the church flowers to adorn the reception area. So that may be a good idea for u. If you can get away with using your reception flowers (like a really big, nice arrangement) at your church just to brighten up the altar and then get them back to the reception without messing up the arrangement then you wouldnt have to spend more money on the church flowers. I like the bows on the pews, try using tulle instead of regular ribbon or a combination of both to soften up the look. I like the idea of the flower girl passing out the lavendar, maybe you can have the lavendar placed really nice in two baskets and placed in front of the altar and the flower girl can pass it out at the end of the ceremony. This way your guest will still get the great detail from you, but they will also look great during your mass. Just a thought.
Reply:Is anyone else getting married the same day as you could you not split the cost if not you could use the bows that florists make good luck with your big day
Reply:We asked the church florist to prepare and set up the flowers for our wedding. It cost us under £80.00 for the whole church to be decorated and they looked absolutely beautiful. We just told the florist our colour scheme and he did the rest.

We left the flowers in the church after the ceremony so that the church could could use them for the services in the week.

Are there fragrant California endemic flowers that are easily distinguishable from other flowers?

In other words are their fragrant California endemic flowers that either:

1) Look very much different from other flowers, but have a very much different fragrance or even a simalar fragrance from another flower.

2) Look the same or very similar to another flower but has a very much different fragrance from that flower

Are there fragrant California endemic flowers that are easily distinguishable from other flowers?
Your question reminds me of the time while driving with my husband I tried to describe a wildflower I'd seen as "just like those, but completely different." He immediately broke into laughter. But seriously, if you want to know more about California's wildflowers search that topic. Here is one website found when I searched.

Your opinion about this poem--"flowers of life".all long suggestions and criticism is welcome...?

its been written by a 15 year old in 5 minutes,so judge it accordingly

"THE FLOWER OF LIFE"

Flowers,so full of love,life n beauty,

With occassional thorns to bring us back to reality.

Life's like a flower,all beautiful n sweet,

Until a thorn intervenes,

And then the thorns are all we look for,

To avoid and to forgone.

The beauty then turns meaningless,

And the flower itself full of meaness,

For that one thorn it unwillingly gave us,

We start disliking the whole flower and thus.

Forget the beauty and the scent,

That the flower shared and spent,

To bring a smile on our face,

As we kept up with the circumstances' pace.

I guess that I learned about flowers early on, but it took me a long time to understand the way women tend to see gifts like this and what it means to them. I'd say that it comes down to empathy. My advice to men would be to study your wife, girlfriend, etc and really try to get inside her feelings, to understand what makes her happy, to try to feel what she feels. I think that it probably takes men longer to develop this ability than it does women.

By the way, this cuts both ways. Women can adopt this same empathetic posture towards men, but they don't always do it either.
Reply:men like to get bjs for almost any reason, but I don't see women accomodating them as much as men would like - and BJs are FREE.

Ohh.... sorry I missed that - this has NOTHING to do with FEELING loved. The issue is about receiving flowers AT WORK, therefore it's about APPEARING loved.

how shallow.
Reply:I GUESS GUYZ LIKE THAT YOU DON'T SEE MUCH ANYMORE.. BUT I STILL SEE LOTS OF GUYZ WHO CARES FOR THEIR GF, WIVIES :) HEHEHE.. :) I WORK IN A FLOWER SHOP.. WE HAVE EMAILS TO REMIND THEMMM

OH BTW, I DON'T GET FLOWERS EITHER..
Reply:tell her husband
Reply:It's not just flowers, men don't always appreciate how much a small gesture means to a woman. Tell your co-worker to talk with her husband, not explicitly about flowers, but about gestures of love for no apparent reason, and she won't, do it for her! Every woman deserves flowers once in a while.
Reply:I have the same reason with that but my boyfriend thinks that just sending or giving the women flowers is just humiliating and for fags. i tell him his stupid. but guys no matter what you want they wont give it to you. those guys that do give flowers to their love ones, they only are 20% out of 100%. And only in movies. ( But i dont really care but it would be nice to get your favorite flowers). But me i would really go somewhere interesting instead of showing off with flowers coming to me.
Reply:men want concrete feasible items. flowers die=waste of money.

example...

"that washing machine will be around for at least 5 years"

besides that men just suck at being up on the whole flower thing.
Reply:I don't think they know this.......
Reply:Why does she want flowers at work? Is it to impress her co-workers? Tell her to send herself some flowers. I prefer a good box of candy myself =)

She needs to quit 'wishing' for flowers and maybe start celebrating her anniversary in a different way. How about going out with the girls after work and having a drink. yea !
Reply:I think flowers are sweet from guys they should give more of them out! :)
Reply:I know! I, being a girl understand that. I wish that my boyfriend would send me flowers, but he has other ways of showing his love. Maybe it's the same thing. Maybe he shows his love in other ways

I already have a flower bed in my yard and want to plant flowers. What do I do?

The flower bed is just filled up with dirt, weeds, and little pcs of rock. First I need to clean it out I guess but do I use the dirt that's already in there or do put soil down? If you want to know, I live in Charlotte, NC (Zone 7). I want to plant perennial flowers. I'm new to gardening and want to know how prepare the flower bed, what type of soil I need (if necessary) and any tips on types of flowers to plant. Thanks alot!

I already have a flower bed in my yard and want to plant flowers. What do I do?
Start by amending the soil.

Soil by analogy: As we require food to support us so do plants. Our digestive system works to break down dinner to supply the basic units that will become us structurally, and provide energy, so soil acts to feed plants. Soil requires a steady supply of organic mater to support the worms and micro-organisms, which digest the organics into available plant nutrients. Then just as we take vitamins to complement our diet we can give plants trace minerals and other supplements but these are no substitute for the staple of organic matter to feed the plants. Balance and moderation are key.

You can do a visual soil survey by digging a small hole. First look at the hole and take some soil in hand. Check your soil's texture by picking up a handful and squeeze gently: If it feels sticky and stays in a tight mass, your soil is likely too high in clay. If it feels harsh or gritty and won't hold any shape or crumbles it is likely too high in sand. If it feels smooth or floury and won't hold any shape, it's likely too high in silt. If it molds into your hand yet crumbles apart when squeezed, it has the perfect texture. It is loam.

If it formed a sticky ball try to squeeze it upward to form a ribbon. Measure the length of the ribbon. Now wet the soil in your palm til muddy. Rub the soil against your palm with your other fingertips. Is it smooth, gritty or both?

1” gritty ribbon is sandy loam

1” smooth ribbon is silty loam

1” both is loam

1-2” gritty ribbon is sandy clay loam

1-2” smooth ribbon is silty clay loam

1-2” both is clay loam

GT 2” gritty ribbon is sandy clay

GT 2” smooth ribbon is silty clay

GT 2” both is clay

Amounts and Specifications: To make a significant change in your garden soil, an amendment must equal at least one-third of the volume of the soil you are amending.

For clay soils: the goal is to improve soil aggregation, increase porosity and permeability, and improve aeration and drainage. For example, to amend a garden to a depth of 1 foot, you need to add one-third of a foot (4 inches) of material.

*3 to 6 inches of organic material dug in 9 to 18 inches

*Perlite or pumice 5-25% of amendment

*Coarse sand 5-25% of amendment

For sandy soils: the goal is to increase the soil's ability to hold moisture and store nutrients.

*4 to 8 inches of organic material dug in 12 to 24 inches

*Vermiculite 5-25% of amendment

For both soils:

*Fertilizer - the type and amount of fertilizer to use CAN be determined by a soil test. Fertilizer comes in various forms (pellets, powder, liquid) and many nutrient ratios. If you add all the organics suggested above you can suppose a balanced organic like Whitney Farm rose and flower food 4-6-2 will be enough.

Design pointers for making garden pictures

Don't create fruit salad -- Without a focal point, there is nothing upon which your eye can rest. I suggest taking a black-and-white photo of the garden, because this lets you see form instead of color. It will be easier then to discover where you need to include an important feature. Take pictures as if from the house and towards favorite views. No favorites, then with an eye to creating a vista within your garden.

Use a strong evergreen element for year-round interest -- Outside the family room window, try copper or colorful clay pots to represent the "evergreen" element, and the seasonal plantings around them become "moments of glory." Evergreens can include ground covers like Acaena inermis, conifers that never reach 3 feet tall, or a trellis displaying a winter clematis as backdrop. Try an evergreen rhododendron, with hydrangea and seasonal bulbs like tulips, then allium and calla lilies.

Think in threes -- Each plant combination should use these three attributes: vertical, round and spiky. The contrast adds interest to even the smallest garden. Vertical can be the tall Daffodil arising from a bed of Wall Rock Cress with the daffodils orange center matched to the mounding primroses color. The tall waving lines of Feather Reed grass 'Overdam, with Heuchera 'Pewter Vail', and the round solidity of Bergenia.

Play to your strengths -- Choose plants with which you enjoy working. Intermingle plants with scented foliage to ambush you with their presence while simply weeding among them. Choose a play of color that reminds you of a favorite place. Cool blues to greens or flamboyant golds and oranges, vary the shape but stick with a color. Yucca 'Gold Sword' with Coleus 'Pineapple Queen' or Hakone grass with Hosta 'Sun Power'.

Be as organic as possible -- Lots of compost and thoughtful choice and placement are keys to organic gardening. "This is your chance to protect a small part of our planet."

Imagine looking out at the winter garden. Remember, the entire mood changes with the season. As the large vine maple (Acer circinatum) outside the window unfurls its leaves, the room takes on a decidedly spring green feel, while autumn turns the room warm with tones of orange and red.

Questions to ask yourself

Is a particular style of garden desired? Formal, informal, scented, night flowering for evening use, cottage style for growing herbs or vegetables as well as flowers?

What time of day is your garden most used, and by whom?

Will it be used year round or on summer weekends only?

How much time and energy will be available for maintenance?

Is there a particular view or landscape feature you like?

Is it visible from the house while seated?

Is it visible from a possible bench site in the garden?

Do you like what your windows frame?

To choose the right plant for the right place visit your local gardens. Lucky you to live in a state with such a choice of botanical gardens. The North Carolina Botanical Garden is one of the finest in the country and they have lists of plants. The Garden Club of North Carolina %26amp; the botanical garden cosponsor North Carolina Wildflower of the Year program as well as sponsoring many garden talks. It is well over an hours drive from you but would be worth the trip.

Reply:you know seeds? ok well you put them in the ground.... yay!
Reply:First you have to do is take the weeds out then level the dirt to your liking. You don't need to take out the little rocks, you can even put them on top of the dirt to be part of the garden itself. You don't even need to put a new top soil you can use the existing dirt.

Second, you go about and pick the flowers you like. At zone 7 you have a lot of choices for perennials. Check its instructions if it fits your garden location.

Lastly, as a starter gardener you can check this site and decide for yourself what methods you'll use. (www.squarefootgardening.com). good luck.
Reply:Take care of existing weeds first. Then you can either use the dirt that's there, or go get bags of garden soil (organic if you can) to top dress the soil with. Go to the local nursery for your plants, they can help pick out what you want. When planting, put the tallest growers in the back, shortest in the front. Mulch the beds to keep weeds at a minimum, and water daily until the plants are established and you can cut back. You can jazz it up by mixing in annuals for seasonal colors and variety. If you have a bed close to the house, intersperse cooking herbs such as basil, oregano, rosemary, and whatever else you want for fresh herbs all summer...remove flowers as they appear and at the end of the summer you can dry the rest for fresh dried organic herbs during the winter.
Reply:Clean out the garden of weeds and rocks. Then, dig small holes where you want the flowers and mix regular dirt with some topsoil. Then, put some of the mixture down, put the seed in, and cover it with the rest of the topsoil. If you don't want a seed, just use a pre-done flower. Your local flower shop manager should be able to help you choose which flowers.

Make sure your flower garden is watered regularly stays weed-free!
Reply:You didn't say how large of a bed you had. I would remove as many weeds as possible. Spread several bags of pine bark mulch over the area. Till and mix well with the soil. Wait a week or so and till again to remove any weeds you may have missed. Plant your flowers in the usual way. If you are using potted plants, apply root stimulator at the time of planting (available at your garden center). Carefully and lightly cultivate between plants with a hoe or rake periodically to keep weeds down.

In snapdragons, heterozygotes have pink flowers, whereas homozygotes have red or white flowers. When plants with red flowers are crossed with plants with white flowers, what proportion of the offspring will have pink flowers?

a. 0%

b. 25%

c. 50%

d. 75%

e. 100%

In snapdragons, heterozygotes have pink flowers, whereas homozygotes have red or white flowers. When plants w?
The answer should be e: 100%

Assume R codes for red colour and r codes for white colour.

To have red flowers, the genotype must be RR. To have white flowers, genotype must be rr. To have pink, genotype must be Rr.

Crossing red flowers (RR) with white flowers (rr) in the punnet square will result in all 4 results being (Rr), which means 100% pink flowers.

The possibilities for offspring are:

Pp Pp pp and pp

I used the letter P for pink on the punnet square.

Doing wedding flowers...?

I am doing the wedding flowers for my Minister's wedding in November. I have been looking for good reliable sources of fresh flowers that I can order. Does anyone know where I can order good quality fresh flowers...at preferably wholesale prices that I don't have to purchase a minimum amount of each kind of flower. It's a really small wedding. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Reply:I think their might be a minimum (like 50), but Costco has good flowers. My friend ordered her flowers through them and then arranged them herself.
Reply:We went to the farmers' market and talked to a grower of flowers. She had us come to her farm the day before the wedding. We picked the ones that we wanted. We got a book at a crafts store. The night before the wedding, we had people come to our house, and we made the bouquets.

For the bride's bouquet, we got five calla lilies at the supermarket for $15.00.

Good luck.
Reply:Check out www.growersbox.com

They do have min. orders for wholesale, but they also have a really great section called "wedding in a box"

for a small wedding you could purchase one box and cover everything. It even has the greenery included.

1-800-flowers lawsuit?

What do you think of a man getting divorced who sues 1-800-flowers for faxing his wife a copy of the receipt?

#1) He didn't set up his own sole %26amp; separate account with an address where he lives apart from his wife, so 1-800-flowers had no way to know it wasn't ok to fax a copy of the bill to his home address

#2) His attorney gets on the Today Show on national TV this morning and claims this mistake will cost him half a million dollars in spousal support.

I keep asking why his attorney would publicly ask us to pity him. If it will cost him half a million on spousal support, then the man should have enough income to

- live separately from his soon-to-be-ex

- set up his own sole and separate credit card accounts

- set up his own sole and separate account with 1-800-flowers

- think before he acts

While it will cause him distress in his divorce, why should 1-800-flowers pay part of his divorce costs? Didn't he get himself into the divorce without their help?

1-800-flowers lawsuit?
You have lost sight of something. In today's world, everything that you have mentioned is besides the point. This is a suit happy world that we live in today. People can sue over literally everything and do. I suspect that this man is less interested in what he will lose by divorce and more interested in what he will gain to replace it through the suit. Case in point... Woman buys hot coffee at McDonald's while driving a car, she spills it when placing it between her legs. (Then collects money because even though she ordered hot coffee, the cup didn't say "hot" on the outside. And wins!) Man climbs into bear pit at zoo to retrieve a child's toy (Then sues when the bear bites his a s s. And wins!) Regardless of how stupid these suits are (or the people making them), the point is that until our courts waken up to these shysters, it will continue to get more and more ridicules. The only thing that would make me feel any better with the suit that you mentioned would be if the judge could order this man to refrain from being with any women for the next 10 years! Maybe that would make the guy actually think a little before suing anyone over such a stupid and so obvious mistake on his part.
Reply:Right after seeing he and his attorney on the today show, and right after laughing uncontrollably, I asked a question about this myself. Lets see, he cheats; he's dumb enough to leave a paper trail to his home; how is this dude even smart enough to HAVE a half million. Did he inherit or what. Roflmho.
Reply:He's looking to blame someone other than himself, I guess. What an idiot! How could 1-800-flowers possible be at fault?

ALthough with the way this justice system works, a good lawyer can probably get a settlement out of this. But it's not the florists place to ask, (although this may be the case in the near future if this goes through, like the "caution: Hot liquid" on the outside of McDonalds coffee cups. Duh!) The florist is now going to have to ask if this is for you wife or mistress, so they can cover their asses.

This is stupid. This guy's pissed becasue he got caught.
Reply:Typical male, lookin for someone else to blame
Reply:Guess it'd have to be in America where the garbos will sue you for putting your toenail clippings in the trash....
Reply:i think its great he got busted! it his own doings not the flower company
Reply:I am amazed at how this message is extremely biased towards the man. I think people should wait for the full facts of the case to come out before assuming it was "his" fault.

It does not appear he has done anything wrong as he appeared to already be in the process of getting divorced from his wife and is allowed to move on.

In any case, if the company actually did promise not to send anything to his home at the time he made his purchase, as the story states, then they have broken their promise and privacy laws when sending information to a third party. I say this as there is no indication so far that there was any kind of joint account.

To sum up the information so far, a male has placed an order and requested no information be sent to his address, a thank you card was sent, a female called back requesting more information and then all the details were sent to her.

I don't think this should be a 1 million dollar lawsuit but the company certainly should take some responsibility for what I consider to be their inappropriate actions based on what is known so far - which is not much!
Reply:What a pathetic human being...I wouldn't of even bothered suing 1-800-flowers for this it's his own fault he couldn't keep his dick in his pants...I have a funny feeling that his wife wasn't so much mad that he had ordered flowers for his slut but that he had a slut!!! This guy is a joke...bet you he doesn't get a cent from the company.
Reply:There is no way he will win the suit against 1-800-flowers.

1.) 1-800-flowers has an obligation to their clients to deliver flowers etc and when payment and delivery has been made to ensure a reciept is issued for that transaction. This is a legal requirement for tax purposes. They have abided by their obligations in respect for the transaction.

2.) 1-800-flowers is obligated when it comes to accounts to notify all parties on the account to any purchases made on the account.

The way in which his wife found out he is having an affair has no bearing on wether or not he has to pay spousal maintenance.

His mistake has now obviously caused him some embarrasement and he is looking for someone to blame for him getting caught. He committed adultry. The courts don't look kindly on that and the fact that he is now trying to blame someone else for his actions... give him a shovel. He'll need it.
Reply:Yeah someone is angry because he screwwed up big and wants to blame someone else for his problems, from what I can tell the woman is so much better off without him
Reply:lol....talk about a frivolous law suit!! That's just crazy!
Reply:This guy simply got caught cheating and now wants someone else to blame. The smart cookie is his wife, who upon learning of his infidelity asked for more money in her divorce settlement. Good girl. She deserves every dime she can get out of this cheating loser.
Reply:hew'll get nothing if the credit card was in both names...his attorney is a glory hound and in the end the guy will look stupid not only in his wifes eyes but now the nation.
Reply:you are so right, he deserves to pay ouot, I hope he receives nothing from the lawsuit.

In snapdragons, heterozygotes have pink flowers, whereas homozygotes have red or white flowers. When plants with pink flowers are crossed with plants with white flowers, what proportion of the offspring will have pink flowers?

a. 0

b. 1/2

c. 1/4

d. 1/8

e. 1/10

In snapdragons, heterozygotes have pink flowers, whereas homozygotes have red or white flowers. When plants w?
B. 1/2
Reply:b. 1/2

If you say that red snapdragons are RR, white are rr and pink are Rr.

You cross Rr with rr.

Rr x rr

Rr Rr rr rr

Therefore you have 2 pink snapdragons and 2 white ones.

= 1/2
Reply:b. 1/2
Reply:Let the heterozygote be RW, and the homozygote be WW.

Off you go.

When crossing snapdragons they are incompletely dominant which means they share dominance between the two color traits. Rr X rr will make Rr, rr, Rr, rr

Why is costco, trader joe's,1-800 flowers, and large corporations trying to overshadow flower shops?

I don't understand why large corporations take advantage of small businesses, all those online "florists" like pro-flowers, blooms.net and 1-800 flowers, rip people off.

I ordered a large arrangement from 1-800 flowers and I didn't get the best quality in flowers, I would rather order from a local flower shop now, especiall y those that are family owned.

they give you the best service and products it was worthe the money, pricey, but worth every penny. I still don't understand why some people are still dumb enough to support those large corporations that have no knowledge or passion like a REAL flower shop does. Is it because small flower shops don't have enough money to advertise like large corporations do?

It's called capitalism. Get used to it because it's not going anywhere any time soon.

Soils and flowers.?

ok for my scicne prject im going to do what type of flowers grow better in which soil but idk which flowers and soil to use for ti sp i would like to try to diff solis with one type of flower and can you suggest a flower that grows fast too.

Soils and flowers.?
this isn't a flower but u can try beans. beans grow really fast. umm a flower, tulips grow average, don't go for shrubs or anything. and don't go for cactus either. eh, this is a tough question...ya i'd go with tulips lol..maybe daisy's
Reply:sunflower
Reply:Not flowers, but a tomato plant and azalea bush both like acidic soil. Pines needles are acidic.

Orchids like a lite, easily drainable soil. They also like to be placed above water but not in it.

African violets also need a special soil for best performance.

Cactus like a sandy soil with very minimal watering.

An ideal might be to go to a store and compare the types of soils then figure out what plants like which soil.

Good luck

What are the best looking flowers?

i wanted to get a tattoo of flowers really but am not an expert in the field. does anyone know any beautiful flowers taht is simple but yet beautiful dont say rose please. i was thinking something like a lilly. also better would be flowers that relate to the month of august like flowers that only grow in august or that time period because my brother was born in that month and want to get one for him. so any butiful flowers reflecting the month august and explain the meaning or just beatiful flowers thank u.

What are the best looking flowers?
Gladiolus and Sunflowers are August flowers. Gladiolus is the birth flower for August and signifies remembrance. A good tattoo artist could make this a beautiful tattoo that would be meaningful to you and unique.
Reply:No idea about month of August but Casablanca lillies are stunning. Google the image
Reply:Cherry blossoms, water lillies, peach flowers and vanilla flowers.

Reply:I don't know...I always think it looks so pretty, but it sometimes crosses the line. Try it. If people compliment it, it looks nice. If nobody says anything, it doesn't, and then you can just take it out. But yeah, I always think it's pretty. That girl on American Idol last year always looked so good with it.

What kind of flower best matches a white dress with silver flowers on it?

My girlfriend wants me to pick a really pretty flower for prom. One for her and one for me. And seeing as how we're supposed to match, I'd like to try and find a flower that matches her dress. It's white with silver flowers on it. Prom is this Saturday. And I need to hurry up and order these flowers before it's too late. I just need a list or a few options to choose from so that I can get an idea of what I need to get for her and myself.

What kind of flower best matches a white dress with silver flowers on it?
Your choices are wide open...red, dark pink, yellow with a silver ribbon to pick up the silver in her dress. What color tie are you wearing or are you in a tux?

Flowers for wedding! I am asking my bridesmaids to wear these gowns...?

http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_...

in OASIS.

So, my gown is kinda grecian looking, made with silk charmeuse.

I like real simple, not much greenery...but am not sure the color of the flowers. Our reception will also be based around the oasis color...while incorporating peacock feathers into the invitations, maybe into some of the bouquets, or even some other small details (def. not going overboard!).

What color of flower...what type of flowers should I have for bridesmaids, myself and for centerpeices?

Flowers for wedding! I am asking my bridesmaids to wear these gowns...?
White tulips would be gorgeous
Reply:I like white roses for the bridesmaids. Very pretty dresses!
Reply:Be sure your flowers contrast the color of the dresses and don't blend or they don't show in the photos. The peacock feathers sound fabulous. The BM dress is a teal; you just need to pick another of your favorite colors and let the florist guide you on what flowers will be available in that color and for your budget. Pick pinks, yellows, reds, whites and ivories, or a mix of colors. Generally if you decide on a color and a style, the florist will make something that you'll love. To help determine the style you want, the florist can ask you questions or show you pictures.
Reply:I agree, white lilies would be beautiful.
Reply:These bouquets look dark, but I think it's just the lighting -

Reply:damn, your gown rocks! good choice. I could never fit into something like that. the BM gowns are great too. how about simple plain bunches of long stemmed cala lilies? I don't know if they dye them or if they just come in white but I think it would look cool to have white flowers with the blue dresses, and then blue flowers with your dress.
Reply:the dresses are very pretty. i wore that bridesmaids dress in a wedding and loved it, my husband thought i looked sexy in it. i also love the idea of adding the peacock feathers to the flowers. i think mostly white flowers would be nice, you need sleek flowers like calla lillies.
Reply:I went to my florist with a similar dilemma...what flowers for my girls!

she directed me to the oriental lily....very simple, very fragrant, extremely elegant...and very hearty...they will last! She gave me a stem with 5 buds on it...and it lasted over 2 weeks!

They will rest in my girls' arms with a simple ribbon tied around them and flowing over their wrists.

I think this would look absolutely gorgeous with your girls' gowns!

Good luck!
Reply:Tulips and calla lilies are great. I also love dahlias, ranunculus, and peonies, depending on the time of the year of your wedding.

You could do an all white bouquet to stand out against the dresses, if you aren't into much greenery or a variety of blue flowers. Try browsing theknot.com's flower bouquet gallery. Or just type in "turqouise flowers" in google images or bouquets in images. I got alot of ideas that way.

Good luck.
Reply:Given the Mediteranean feel, what about bit 'rougher' of a bouquet with olive leaves, fig, eucheliptus (spelling is way off, sorry) and baby's breath? That's a very bold color and it won't jive with your dress to have crazy florals in the BMs flowers.
Reply:Some plain white day lilies would look beautiful with the bridesmaid colors, even for the wedding decorations.
Reply:I love the dresses that you chose, especially your wedding dress-very elegant!

I definitely think tulips or calla lillies would look very nice!

Good luck!
Reply:I would go yellow... Roses maybe... or lilies
Reply:What about something simple, like some white calla lilies?

Or maybe some tiger lilies with white roses...

Or you could go for a nice yellow Cymbidium orchid bouquet...

Flowers on a date......flowers from my garden okay?

I have some flowers in my garden. They are not roses, I don't even know what kind they are. If I pluck them and take them on my third date, will she think that I am cheap or will she like it? I was going to pluck the flowers and put them in a basket. You got any better ideas to take as gift on a date.

Last time she came over for lunch she gave me tea leaves. Although we guys don't expect any gifts, it was flattering. She invited me for dinner, and I have no idea what to take her.

Flowers on a date......flowers from my garden okay?
sure it is!!!

its the thought that counts =)
Reply:I think it all depends on the girl. some would think its really sweet that you picked them yourself then if you have one of those high matinence gold diggin hoes then she would probably be mad she didnt get a dozen roses. personally, id think its really nice to get some hand picked flowers.
Reply:i think its sweet and kind of endearing that you want to give her some flowers from your garden. go ahead if she thinks your cheap then she has no idea what shes missing out on
Reply:...flowers from your garden is perfect. Perhaps put them in a small vase with ribbon tied around. That way she can place them on the table as you dine. If she asks tell her they are from your personal garden......big romance points.

You could also bring along a dessert for the evening or a special box of Godiva chocolates for her to enjoy during the week and remember how nice the evening was that you two shared.
Reply:If you tell her you were thinking of her when you went into your garden and picked the most beautiful flowers. Tell her these flowers mean more to you than any store flowers because they were grown with love in your own garden. She will MELT!!! and love it! good luck, swequin
Reply:umm dude just buy flowers. and tell her it was from y our garden or soemthing.
Reply:yes, depend on your date loved flower from the garden.
Reply:They're not dandelions are they? You don't want to bring no weed over to her house, unless you're growing some real weed, then that would be okay because you two could roll up one and enjoy the night together....
Reply:if i were your date i would like them.
Reply:That sounds really sweet.

When you give them to her, tell her "I picked these from my garden for you, I thought you would like them."

That is just the kind of sweet thinking that makes a girl melt. :)
Reply:I think taking flowers from your own garden is even more thoughtful than buying some at a florist. I bet she will too. Just make sure there are a substantial number so it doesn't look like you are scrimping. I would wrap the stems in a long, streaming ribbon of some sort to make it look like a bouquet. Make sure you don't cut them until you are ready to leave for her place because they may not last too long once they are cut.
Reply:Yeah that sounds really good - i am sure she will love them! And the basket is a nice twist. You gonna get that basket back?

Anyway - just make them look nice.
Reply:yeah man its the thought that counts
Reply:I think that flowers form your garden would be a great gift. I think that it would be more personal than buying flowers from a store. Make a little joke to mention that the flowers came from your garden, that way she knows that you dont know what they are but that you strived to make an effort to impress her.
Reply:i know that personally i would find it charming that you even had a garden. maybe you could bring her flowers from your garden and put a ribbon around them instead of in a basket. it will be charming and classy at the same time
Reply:What ever you give her make sure its from the heart. If she really likes you she'll love any present you give her.
Reply:I would do that and bring her a bottle of wine.

Can I plant flowers where I had previously planted flowers?

I planted flowers last year and they bloomed early in Feb. It was unseasonably warm here. Then a late frost came and they died. They never came back. They are supposed to be annual flowers, but I am afraid I will not have flowers again next summer. Can I plant more/different flowers in the same place?

Can I plant flowers where I had previously planted flowers?
Annuals only last on season anyway, so they wouldn't come back. Since the frost caused them to die and not some sort of disease, there is not reason not to re-plant in the same area. If you want your plants to last year after year, plant perennials.
Reply:Of course you can. Mix in some new soil, or compost, turning the soil to break down any clumps, and plant for whatever the location (sun or shade).
Reply:Yes, I do every year!
Reply:No, they may pop up next summer, so wait %26amp; see. :)
Reply:Yes.
Reply:Yes you may plant over expired plants, perennials plants are the ones that come back. Annuals die each year, although they may re-seed.
Reply:You can plant more flowers. Work in some organic compost to make up for depleted nutrients %26amp; to improve drainage. Add mulch to conserve moisture %26amp; to decrease weeding.

If you give you new plants lots of TLC, they'll thrive.

Good luck! Enjoy exploring all the possibilities having this opportunity brings ;)
Reply:Yes, but take up the old ones. If they were annuals, that means they only bloom once in the year. What you want are perennials. Another thing to look at is what are the native flowers to your region, these are ones that will do well. Check with your neighbors and see what they grow or ask your local nursery what is recommended.
Reply:it's obvious that those flowers that bloomked in feb loves winter and don't like summer so i suggest that plant different that likes all weather condition
Reply:Yes, you can replant every year if you wish.

Vegetables have to be moved around and not planted in the same spot from year to year.

Here are some hints to help you in your gardening:

Mix in slow-released (time-released) fertilizer such as Osmocote into the soil. Read the container and make sure you get the all purpose type:

http://www.osmocote.com/index.cfm/event/...

There are other good brands too.

Water well.

Plant your flowers.

Water well.

If you have it, spread mulch around your flowers to help hold

in moisture, keep weeds from growing, keep your soil in place and healthy. You won't have to water so often:

http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-mulch.ht...

My husband and I keep our dead dry leaves from Fall in a trash bag and stomp up and down on it or crush them with our hands. The smaller the better. That is all we use for our mulch. You can also buy a hand held leaf vacuum that breaks the leaves down for you. This will help keep your yard clean and pretty.

Starting the second month after you plant your flowers, you can use liquid fertilizer from once per week to 14 days, or even once per month. ONLY if you wish.

Do not fertilize once the temps climb into the 90's.

Don't fertilize after August 15th. Your perennial flowers need to get ready for their winter sleep in order for them to return the next year.

You can keep your annuals going with fertilizer after August 15th if you wish as you will need to replant them the next year (some annuals re-seed themselves, but I don't depend on this).

Watering is very important to the health of your flower gardens. Each morning, stick your fingers down into the soil a couple or three inches deep. If it feels dry, water.

As the flowers fad, cut them off. This will keep the blooms going. This is called deadheading (You will need to stop deadheading after August 15 on your perennials so they can make seed and then go to sleep in the Fall.)

Happy gardening to you.
