I'm looking for 1-2 more flower varieties to create a "bouquet" effect in the drawing. Whether you think of folklore, climate, location...just looking for flowers that compliment poppies. Thank you!
FLOWER EXPERT? I'm designing a tattoo of oriental poppies. Are there flowers that "go" with them in gardening?
I have always liked poppies and lilies together. Poppy being the soft "flowy" flower and the lily being the contrast with spiked foliage and pointed petals.. I really like poppies and orchids together. The colors are so varied in both, I'm sure there is a combination right for you. I would love to see the finished product when you get it done:)
Here's some others that might help:
Fuchsias
Japanese Lanterns
Snapdragons
Alstremaria
Plumaria
Peony
Mums
Bird of Paradise
Firecracker Flower
Bleeding Hearts
Foxglove
Reply:Lavender or meadow flowers %26amp; certain grasses look good with poppies in my opinion.
Reply:Plumeria. They are only found blooming in tropical regions. I should know, I've been trying to grow a plumeria outside of Hawai'i for years. Never a bloom. Go to Hawai'i or Japan or Southern California, and you will see the ground littered with them!
Not only that but the colors/sizes vary greatly as to their scents. Anything from Almond to Peach scents. From White with yellow centers, to violet/magenta and yellow striped (often called Hawai'ian Flag) http://www.plumeria.org has some fine pictures.
I also find tropical hibiscus to be a favorite tattoo, probably because they come in many color varieties, and sizes and even variations on petal formation (some are very ruffled, while others are wide and flat, some double or triple layer bloom.) Their glossy deep green leaves are a perfect backdrop to the vibrant color of the flower.
However, when I think of oriental poppies, I think of those little white round leaves of the 'money tree'. Named for their leaves, look like silver dollars hanging. I don't think it is a tree, but rather a shrub...not sure, I also see these in oriental art, though not exclusive to tropical climates.
Reply:nigella in white or blue,(the leaves are ferny)... pincushion flower in blue....and both are different enuff to keep the poppy in center stage...
